SALEWA

SALEWA was founded by Josef Liebhart on July 8, 1935 in Munich and registered as a company for saddlery and leather products.

During the war years, the company produced various leather and textile products, the first rucksacks with steel tube construction and hazel ski poles.

How the brand name SALEWA came about

The name SALEWA was created by combining two initial letters from three words:

SA - sattler - saddler

LE - leader - leather

WA - waren - goods

Breakthrough in outdoor equipment

Thanks to the great demand for ski poles in the winter of 1952/53, the SALEWA company managed to make a breakthrough in the sports field for the first time. At the beginning of 1955, SALEWA supports an expedition to the Andes to the Cordillera Blanca and thus establishes itself in outdoor sports. Equipment for ice and mountain cats are included in the production program of the company SALEWA - department of mountain sports.

Salewa functional clothing and footwear

In 1978, a decisive step for further development will take place. The range of products is expanded to include functional clothing. In 1979, SALEWA includes all its products under one common logo, which is an eagle.

Salewa offers quality hiking boots that meet even the most demanding criteria. They are an ideal choice for demanding hiking and secured via ferrata routes.
