Nordic walking, or Nordic walking , is already popular among Slovaks. Its beginnings go back to Finland, specifically to 1930, when Finnish cross-country skiers used their cross-country poles during summer training. Poles for Nordic walking as a separate sport began to be produced in 1996. Since then, the official name Nordic walking has also been used.
Nordic walking poles are an integral part of this sport. With it and thanks to them, you will burn up to 40% more calories than during normal walking. If your Nordic walking technique is correct:
• you multiply the effect of classic walking
• you engage up to 600 muscles, which is 90% of all muscles in the body
• heart rate does not increase unnecessarily
• you can burn up to 400 calories per hour
As a separate sport, Nordic walking has spread throughout the world. Among others, it is covered by the following institutions:
• International Nordic Walking Federation INWA
• International Council of Nordic Walking ICNW
• World Academy of Modern Nordic Walking WMNWA
• in Slovakia it is the Slovak Nordic Walking Association
