The last time the EURO 2020 tournament was held in 2021 within the whole of Europe (11 European countries) and due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was moved by year. From the history of the European Championship in football
The European Football Championship is also referred to as EURO or UEFA EURO. It is the main football competition of national teams in the Union of European Football Associations ( UEFA ). The first championship was held in 1960 in France and since then it has been held every four years in Europe. The exception was 2020, when the championships were held only in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The general secretary of the football federation, Henri Delaunay, was the first to come up with the idea of organizing a tournament of this format in 1927. However, the tournament officially started only in 1960, five years after his death. In his honor, the master was awarded a trophy that bears his name.
Host countries qualify for the tournament automatically, others must qualify based on predetermined rules.
