Electric bicycles are more expensive than conventional bicycles. There are several reasons for this, and all of them lead to greater comfort and better experiences. It follows that the materials and technologies used for their production have higher costs and thus are more expensive.
Electric bikes are heavier
Some of the reasons why e- bikes are more expensive has to do with their weight. Why is that so? Again, we pay for convenience.
• Higher weight means more demanding braking, so an electric bike needs high-quality brakes.
• The electric motor and battery must have a place in the frame.
• A heavier bike needs a better quality battery.
• The price of an electric bicycle also depends on new technologies.
Hydraulic disc brakes
Most e-bikes have state-of-the-art hydraulic disc brakes that provide the necessary stopping power. This means that if you are launching down a steep hill, you can very easily pick up high speed. Therefore, brakes must not be "only" effective, but must also brake in a specific way
Electric cars vs. electric bicycles
If you were to look at the prices of new modern electric cars and compare them with the same new models of cars that still use conventional fuels, it is clear at first glance that electric cars are significantly more expensive. Much of this cost can be attributed to the fact that electric cars contain batteries and use cutting-edge and constantly evolving technology.
The same can be applied to an electric bicycle . Like electric cars, they are powered by a rechargeable battery. The minerals that are used to make batteries, especially lithium and cobalt, are expensive and their supply on Earth is limited.
