Avalanche probes belong to the avalanche equipment, which serves climbers for prevention, detection and rescue in the event of avalanche accidents. Avalanche gear should be part of the equipment of every climber who ventures into avalanche-prone snow conditions.

Avalanche probes - first aid in an avalanche

They are specially designed rods that are used to accurately determine the location and depth of a person buried in an avalanche . A scale in cm is shown on the probe, which is used to determine the depth at which the buried person is located. Avalanche probes are solid, but made of light materials such as aluminum , steel or carbon. They have a quick locking system, thanks to which they can be unfolded and folded quickly and easily. They should be at least 240 cm long to be able to reach most of the buried. They can also include other additional parts for adding a longer length.
