The shoe company Meindl was founded in 1928 by master shoemaker Lukas Meindl. In addition to the production of footwear, he also began to produce leather garments and traditional Bavarian "Lederhosen".

Meindl is one of the few shoe factories in Germany. The factory in Kirchanschöring in Bavaria produces both hiking boots and walking shoes.

For Meindl Identity® models, Meindl - as the first shoe manufacturer - gives a detailed certificate of origin for the used upper leather, which comes from the region around Kirchanschöring.

In 2022, the Meindl brand celebrated 40 years of cooperation with Gore-tex. Hiking boots with a Gore-tex membrane are:
